The Frank’s Meat Sauce Origin Story

Shortly after Frank and Monica Reeves were married in 1985, Monica realized that Frank’s cooking skills were superior, although one item that was not quite up to snuff was the BBQ sauce. Hickory flavors made Monica’s stomach upset, and vinegar wasn’t to Frank’s liking. So, Frank made his own.

One year for Christmas, Monica wanted something different to give. “Frank, just how much sauce can you make?” she asked. Franks likes a challenge, and soon there were jars all over the kitchen. After that Christmas, family members started putting in requests for Frank’s sauce.

In 2014, Frank and Monica volunteered to provide food service for the Osage County Free Fair kitchen. Frank and Monica saw this as not only a chance to give back to the community but also an opportunity for a new test audience. Frank began planning, family members were recruited as servers, and everything was readied. The menu included a bean and cornbread dinner, spaghetti, and a pulled pork sandwich with Frank’s sauce. The responses came in, and it was a rave.

During the fair, a grateful consumer put Frank in contact with a professional bottling company. After much deliberation, Frank and Monica pursued the bottler only to find they had outgrown their factory and were in the process of building a bigger facility. Franks’ sauce was put on a waiting list.

In May of 2015, Frank received the call he’d been waiting for. The new bottling facility was up and running. Suddenly, Monica and Frank were faced with the toughest question yet: “What do we name this stuff?” It needed a name that was true to the content — catchy, easy to say, something just right. Lists of names were made, ranging from “Miss Monica’s Favorite Sauce” to “Mmmmm, that’s good stuff!” But it always came back to “Frank’s Meat Sauce.”

The name was picked, the labels were designed, and without further ado, production began. A process more than twenty-five years in the making had finally reached fruition. “Frank’s Meat Sauce” became available on in stores across the state.

Praise the Lord!
